The Müritz-Lauf is held in the Mecklenburg Lake District, a thinly-populated area of great natural beauty, located in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the north-eastern part of Germany.
Runners can choose from two race options:
The Müritz-Staffel-Lauf is a relay race for teams of two to eight runners. Starting at 8:30am in Waren, the course is a 75km loop around the Müritz, the largest of more than 1,000 lakes in the region.
The Müritz-Städte-Lauf is a 28km point-to-point run for individual athletes. Starting at 11:30am in Röbel and finishing in Waren, participants run the last three legs of the 75km relay.
The route takes the runners through agricultural areas, woods and villages. The course is a bit undulating.
In the past it was also possible to run the 75km race as an individual runner but this ultramarathon option has not been offered since 2022.
