The Europalauf is held annually in the summer in Neustadt in Holstein, a small harbour town of about 15,000 souls, situated in the Bay of Lübeck on the German Baltic Sea coast.
The main race of the day is the half marathon which features a very scenic route along the coastal promenade and through the lovely rolling countryside of the Ostholstein district.
Starting in the beach resort of Pelzerhaken, which is about four kilometres from Neustadt's Old Town, the race is run on paved and unpaved footpaths, cycleways and roads.
In addition to the half marathon, the event offers a 7.5km Jedermannlauf ("Run for everyone"), a 7.5km Nordic Walking race as well as competitions for young athletes, all held on an out-and-back course along the coast.
