The Grænseløbet (‘Border Run’; German: Grenzlauf) is a multi-terrain running event held since 1985 in Kruså, a village on the Danish side of the Denmark-Germany border.

There are three race options that all start and finish at the Grænsehallerne sports centre:

  • 5km run or walk
  • 11km
  • 21.1km halvmarathon (half marathon)

The 5km run or walk is held entirely on Danish soil whereas the 11km race takes the runners across a footbridge (pictured) into Germany and then, after about two kilometres, through another border crossing back into Denmark.

Participants in the half marathon run two laps, so they cross the border four times.

All routes are on mixed terrain (asphalt, gravel and trails), mostly through woods and farmland.

The course is undulating. The difference between the lowest and the highest point on the course is about 50 metres. From start to finish, the half marathon features over 200 metres of ascent.
