The Lipenský půlmaraton ("Lipno Half Marathon") forms part of the Lipno Sport Festival which takes place annually in August in Lipno nad Vltavou, a holiday resort situated at the eastern end of the Czech Republic's largest lake, the 42km-long Lipno Reservoir.
The event offers races for all ages:
- 400m kids run
- 800m kids run
- 3km (+120m of ascent)
- 10km (+380m of ascent)
- 21km (+615m of ascent)
Starting at the marina, the 10k race and the half marathon feature a very hilly and scenic course that is run on a mixture of forest trails, ski slopes, gravel and asphalt roads.
The highest point on the course is on top of Stezka korunami stromů (Treetop Walkway), a wooden canopy walkway and observation tower on the summit of Kramolín (899m).
Opened in 2012, the Treetop Walkway has quickly become one of the main tourist attractions in the South Bohemian Region. The tower offers wonderful panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding Šumava mountains.
