The Banja Luka Maraton is held annually in October in Banja Luka, a lively and green university city of about 180,000 people.
Located halfway between Zagreb and Sarajevo, approximately 190 kilometres from each city, Banja Luka is the second-largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the largest one in the Republika Srpska.
The event has something for everyone:
- marathon
- half marathon
- 10k
- 10k relay (2 x 5k)
- 1.2k fun run or walk
- 500m kids run
The routes of the 10k, half marathon and marathon races have been accurately measured and certified by World Athletics.
Starting on Trg Krajine, the main square in the city centre, and ending inside of the medieval Kastel Fortress (approximately 700 metres from the start area), the course is gently-undulating.
Participants in the 10k race run one lap through the city. The half and full marathon routes also take the runners out and back along the narrow valley of the Vrbas river.
