Held at the Klopeiner See, a popular alpine summer holiday destination in the province of Kärnten (Carinthia) in the southern part of Austria, the Klopeiner See Volkslauf attracts several hundred runners from near and far.

Four race distances are available:

• 600m kids run
• 1.2km kids run
• 5.2km run or nordic walking (one lap around the lake)
• 10.4km run (two laps around the lake)

The route runs anticlockwise around the Klopeiner See and includes a challenging hill on the southern shore.

The event takes place annually on 15 August, the feast of the Assumption of Mary, a public holiday in Austria and many other countries.
