This running event is held annually on a Friday evening in July in Villach, a town of about 65,000 people, located in the state of Kärnten (Carinthia) in the southern part of Austria, near the borders with Italy and Slovenia.
The event comprises three races:
- 500m Kinderlauf (children under 10)
- 1.83km Jugendlauf (young athletes under 18)
- 5.7km Citylauf (main race)
Participants in the 5.7km Citylauf run three laps through the town centre. The route runs through the Old Town, along the Drau river and across two bridges.
The race course is undulating and closed to all traffic.
