The Wachau Marathon is a road running event held annually in September in the Wachau, a very picturesque 35-kilometre-long stretch of the Danube valley between the towns of Melk and Krems in Lower Austria, the largest state of Austria.

Entrants can choose between three scenic point-to-point races along the river, all finishing in Krems:

  • 11km Viertelmarathon (quarter marathon)
  • 21.1km Halbmarathon (half marathon: run and nordic walking)
  • 42.2km Marathon (for individual runners and relay teams of two, three or four runners)

The half marathon is the most prestigious of these races, attracting international elite athletes and the biggest field of participants.

The course is flat and fast.

The Juniormarathon (kids' run) takes place on Saturday, one day before the long-distance races.
