Held on the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn in Germany, the Fehmarn Marathon is a multi-terrain running event for those who love the fresh air and don't mind a stiff breeze.
It's a family-friendly event offering races for all ages:
- 1.4km Minilauf (kids run)
- 5km Lauf (5k race)
- 12km Rund um Burgtiefe ("Around Burgtiefe")
- 21.1km Halbmarathon (half marathon)
- 42.2km Marathon (marathon)
All races begin and end on the athletics track in Burg, the biggest settlement on the island.
The full marathon features a scenic single-loop course which takes the runners on mixed terrain (asphalt, gravel, dikes) through the pancake-flat agricultural interior of the island, along the east coast and the south coast and around the beach resort of Burgtiefe.
Fehmarn is connected to the German mainland by a road and rail bridge. There are also ferry connections with Denmark.
