The Nymburk Half Marathon in Czechia takes runners along the beautiful green banks of the River Elbe (Czech: Labe).

Entrants have the choice between the 10k race (Nymburská čtvrtka) and the half marathon (Nymburský půlmaraton).

Both races begin and end at the medieval town walls of Nymburk (pictured above), a small town of 15,000 inhabitants, situated around fifty kilometres east of Prague.

Participants in the half marathon run two laps of the 10km course. The second lap includes a short out-and-back section along the river to make it a half marathon.

The race is run mainly on flat asphalt bikeways along both banks of the river.

But the route features some challenging portions as well. Competitors have to run up and down 60 stairs of an Elbe bridge and 30 stairs at the Hydroelektrárna (Hydroelectric Power Plant) in Nymburk.

However, with a generous time limit of two hours for the 10k and three hours for the half marathon, the event is suitable for runners of all abilities.
