Nymburk (Czech Republic), Sunday 23 April 2017
The Nymburk Half Marathon in the Czech Republic features a very scenic course along the green banks of the River Elbe (Czech: Labe).
The event offers a 10k race (Nymburská čtvrtka) and a half marathon (Nymburský půlmaraton), starting and finishing at the town walls of Nymburk, an old town of 15,000 inhabitants, situated about fifty kilometres east of Prague.
Participants in the half marathon run two laps of the 10km course. The second lap includes a short out-and-back section along the river to make it a half marathon.
The race is run mainly on flat asphalt bikeways. Even so, the course is challenging as the competitors have to run up and down the stairways of two Elbe bridges, 60 stairs at one bridge and then 30 stairs at the other bridge.
However, with a generous time limit of two hours for the 10k and three hours for the half marathon the event is suitable for runners of all abilities.
