Kroměříž (Czech Republic), Saturday 2 April 2016
This running event in Moravia offers children's races, a 10.55km čtvrtmaraton (quarter marathon) and a 21.1km půlmaraton (half marathon).
The quarter marathon is one lap and the half marathon is two laps of a flat course that begins and ends at the Hrubý rybnik lake in Kroměříž, a 900-year-old town that is well worth a visit for its beautiful historic centre and for its castle and gardens, which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The route runs through the village of Trávnické Zahrady (pictured above), through farmland and along the River Morava (pictured below). The race is run mainly on roads and cycleways. Approximately ten per cent of the course is off road.
Last year, almost 150 runners took part in the event. The fastest half marathon finishers were Josef Sedláček (1:17:01) and Martina Novotná (1:36:20).
