The Cjasteons al Cjamine draws around 600 runners and hikers of all ages to the village of Castions di Strada, which sits on the vast and fertile Friulian Plain in the Province of Udine in the north-east of Italy.

Participants can choose between four routes — 7km, 12km, 21km, or 30km.

All routes are very flat but there's no point in racing hard or even trying to break personal records as it's a non-competitive event without timekeeping.

Most participants take it as a training run or walk and enjoy the scenic course through agricultural land, vineyards and woods—and the fine views of the Alps in the distance.

The route is mostly on gravel roads, with a bit of asphalt and trails.

Some sections of the course follow irrigation channels (pictured above).

There are many friendly helpers and plenty of feed stations along the route, and hungry finishers can order some coniglio (rabbit) at the Sagre dal Cunin (Rabbit Festival) which is held annually in the centre of the village:

Timekeeping: No. This is a non-competitive fun run.

You get: fruit, sweets and drinks on the course and at the finish

Showers and changing facilities: no
