The Kassel Marathon is a popular multi-sports event that features a full and a half marathon, a marathon relay race for teams of four runners, as well as races for children, inline skaters, handcyclists, walkers, and nordic walkers.

More than 10,000 competitors are expected to take part in the event this year.

Both the half marathon and the full marathon are held on very undulating single-loop courses which begin and end at the Auestadion on the edge of the Baroque Karlsaue park. The start is outside the stadium but the finish is inside.

The time limit to complete the marathon course is 5hr 30min.

Kassel is a city of about 200,000 people, located in a hilly region in the state of Hesse in central Germany. Although it was badly destroyed in World War Two, the city is well worth a visit for its fine museums and art exhibitions and for its wonderful parks, in particular for the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, which has recently been included into the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
