Köflach (Austria), Saturday 14 June 2014
Held at the Bundesgestüt Piber (Federal Stud Piber), which is situated in the rolling hills to the west of the city of Graz in Austria, the Lipizzanerheimatlauf attracts around 1,000 participants.
The stud farm is one of the major tourist destinations in the region as it breeds Lipizzaner horses for the famous Spanish Riding School in Vienna.
Starting and finishing on the parade ground (pictured below), participants run either one lap (7km), two laps (14km), or three laps (half marathon) of a very scenic multi-terrain course through farmland and woods.
The route is rather challenging. Each lap features 110 metres of ascent and 110 metres of descent.
The event also offers a 3.5km run, children's races and a 7km loop for nordic walkers.
