15th Grossglockner Mountain Race 2014
Heiligenblut (Austria), Sunday 13 July 2014
The Grossglockner Berglauf in Austria attracts an international field of more than 800 runners, among them some of the world's best mountain runners.
Participants run 12.7 kilometres of a very demanding uphill trail course which includes almost 1500 metres of ascent. The final kilometre is particularly steep.
Starting in the village of Heiligenblut (1256m), which sits at the foot of the majestic Grossglockner (3798m), Austria's highest peak, the route runs through forests and pastures and around two glacial lakes.
The finish line is at the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe (2370m), a vantage point that offers phenomenal views of the Grossglockner and the Pasterze Glacier below.
Shuttle buses take the runners back to Heiligenblut after the race.
