The 25th Kainacher Bergmarathon, to be held on 10 August 2014, will once again attract an international crowd of mountain runners to the village of Kainach in Austria's state of Styria.

Participants will run 44km of a very scenic and challenging loop course through forests and mountain pastures, mostly on gravel roads and trails.

The start and finish lines are at an elevation of 542 metres. The highest point on the course is at 1790 metres above sea level on the grassy ridge of the Gleinalm mountain range. Overall, the course features approximately 1800 metres of ascent.

Runners should expect to add at least one hour to their road marathon finishing time. The time limit to complete the course is seven hours (nine hours for walkers).

In 2013, the Bergmarathon winners were the French international ultra marathon runner Michael Boch (3:35:27) and Austria's Maria Frei (4:31:23).

It is possible to form a team of three runners and run the race as a relay.
