Held on a Friday night in mid-June, the Nachtlauf attracts over 4000 runners to the shores of the Außenalster lake in Hamburg, Germany's second-largest city.

Entrants can choose to run one lap around the lake (7.5km) or two laps (15km).

Starting and finishing in a large park on the western shore, the route is a mostly flat and scenic loop on a mix of gravel and asphalt.

Instead of a bib number, participants get a technical T-shirt which they must wear during the race. The entry fees are € 20 for advance entries, and € 25 for late entries.
