Held every year on a summer night in late July, the Mitternachtslauf (‘Midnight Run’) features an undulating 10km course through Heiligenhafen, a small town on the Baltic coast in Germany's northernmost state of Schleswig-Holstein.

Starting at 11pm on the athletics track next to the Stadtpark, participants run through the historic town centre, through residential areas, past the marina, along the beach promenade, and through the ‘Ferienzentrum’ holiday resort.
