The Giro del Lago is a small and very scenic 9km multi-terrain running race around the magnificent Lago del Predil (or "Lago di Raibl"), a 1.5km-long lake that is well-hidden in the Julian Alps in the north-eastern corner of Italy.

Situated at an elevation of 959 metres near the ski resort of Tarvisio and very close to the border with Slovenia, the lake is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery.

The race begins and ends in the former mining village of Cave del Predil (pictured) which played host to the start of a stage of this year's Giro d'Italia bicycle race.

The route is a very hilly mix of mountain trails (3.5km), gravel roads (3km), and asphalt roads (2.5km).
