Held on a Friday night in summer, the Ossiacher See Nachthalbmarathon in Austria's state of Kärnten (Carinthia) attracts approximately 700 runners every year.

The event offers a half marathon, a 7km race for runners and nordic walkers, and some shorter children's races.

Participants in the half marathon run 21.1 kilometres of a certified point-to-point course around the western part of the 10-kilometre long Lake Ossiach.

The route alternates in direction each year. In 2013, competitors will run from Ossiach on the southern shore to Bodensdorf on the northern shore.

The course is undulating on roads and cycleways, mostly close to the lake.

Pre-race ferry transportation from Bodensdorf to the start in Ossiach is included in the entry fees.

Every year, many holidaymakers and runners from neighbouring countries take part in the event. In 2012, the top half marathon finishers were Edwin Kemboi of Kenya (1:08:56) and Žana Jereb of Slovenia (1:21:41).
