Janské Lázně (Czech Republic), Saturday 31 August 2013
Several hundred trail runners are expected to travel to the Krkonoše, a mountain range located on the border between the Czech Republic and Poland, to compete for the title of World Masters Mountain Running Champion 2013.
The event welcomes elite athletes and fun runners alike, from 35 to 79 years old. It is not necessary to qualify for the championships.
The route will be an 8.6-kilometre point-to-point course that includes 650 metres of elevation gain.
Starting at the colonnade in Janské Lázně, a very pretty spa village that sits on the southern edge of the mountain range, participants will run mostly uphill on forest trails to the finish line on Černá hora (1299m), a wooded mountain with a rounded top and many facilities for skiing in the winter.
Nine races will be held, one after the other. The most experienced athletes (age group 75-79) will be started first, the youngest competitors (35-39) at the end.
