The Kronplatzrun is a 30-kilometre uphill road race in Italy's alpine province of Südtirol ("South Tyrol", or Alto Adige in Italian), where most people speak German as a first language.
The course features an elevation gain of 1500 metres.
The start is in Bruneck (Brunico), a small and pleasant town in the Puster Valley. The route, which is closed to traffic, runs along asphalt and dirt roads.
The finish line is on top of Kronplatz (Plan de Corones, 2275m), a lump of a mountain with a rounded top. Kronplatz was twice finish of a stage of the Giro d'Italia bicycle race. In winter, it's a popular ski area with over 100 kilometres of pistes. Weather permitting, there are great panoramic views of the Dolomites and the Zillertal Alps.
Last year's first edition of the Kronplatzrun had just 91 finishers but the event will surely grow in the future. The winners were Hannes Rungger (2:07:32) and Sigrid Keydana (3:00:01).
