The Bistrški tek takes place in the hills above the town of Ilirska Bistrica in southern Slovenia, not far from the borders with Croatia and Italy.

Participants run 10 kilometres on dirt roads through pine forests and beautiful open grassland. In the first four kilometres the route climbs approximately 150 metres, then it's mostly downhill.

Last year, 126 runners finished the race. The winners were Slovenia's Jernej Šemrov (36:10) and Valentina Bonanni of Italy (40:27).
