Lipizzaners at Piber
Over 800 runners took part in last year's Lipizzanerheimatlauf, an attractive multi-terrain running event which is staged in the Federal Stud Farm of Piber (Bundesgestüt Piber) in southern Austria.
The farm breeds Lipizzaner horses for the famous Spanish Riding School in Vienna. It is situated in the rolling hills near the town of Köflach, around 40 kilometres from the city of Graz.
The event offers a 7K, a 14K and a 21K run, as well as children's races and a 7K nordic walking loop. The 7K run is usually the most popular race.
The start and the finish are on the parade ground of the stud farm. The route is a hilly 7km loop on trails and roads through woods, fields and pastures. Less than half of the course is on asphalt roads. Each lap features 110 metres of elevation gain.
