Ferrara di Monte Baldo (Italy), Sunday 24 July 2011
"Trail della speranza sul sentiero delle tre aquile"
"Trail of hope along the path of the three eagles"
This beautiful 24-kilometre trail running event is staged on Monte Baldo, a mountain ridge that stretches along the eastern shore of Lake Garda in northern Italy.
Participants run on dirt roads and trails. The course features many uphill and downhill sections. Overall, it includes 1200 metres of elevation gain.
The route goes up Monte Baldo's eastern slopes, which show an enormous variety of flora and fauna, including Golden Eagles. Start is at the "Rifugio Novezzina", a mountain hut situated at an elevation of 1235 metres, above the village of Ferrara di Monte Baldo.
The finish line is at an elevation of 1750 metres at the futuristic summit station of the cableway which runs from Malcesine (on Lake Garda) up to Monte Baldo. The panoramic views are stunning!
Last year's first edition of the event had almost 150 finishers. The winners were Michele Capuzzo (2:06:02) and Anna Conti (2:29:25).
