Topusko Half Marathon 2011
Almost all participants in the Topusko Half Marathon in Croatia have set personal records in this race. No surprise, the course is just about 16 kilometres long. Or 17? Well, it doesn't really matter as it's a very nice small event, held in a rural region far away from any main tourist routes.
The event takes place in the spa village of Topusko which sits amid beautiful rolling hills near the border with Bosnia, approximately 80 kilometres south of Zagreb.
Topusko suffered badly during the Croatian War of Independence (1991-1995).
The route consists of two undulating laps through agricultural land and villages.
Although the event charges no entry fees all runners receive a T-shirt and a medal, and usually they also get a meal after the race, as well as free entry to the Top Terme Spa Resort with its thermal indoor and outdoor pools.
Last year, the race had 134 finishers, led home by Zoran Žilić (54:11) and Lisa Stublić (1:02:41).
