The Lauffestival offers a nice way to spend May Day in Bad Blumau, a small village amid rolling hills in south-eastern Austria.

The village is mainly known for the luxurious thermal spa Rogner Bad Blumau, designed by the Austrian painter and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

Pleasure-seekers will like the the fact that all participants in the half marathon and in the 10.5k race get a free entry ticket to the spa. However, we couldn't find out if the ticket is valid on the day of the event, so better check with the race organizers and make a reservation for the spa beforehand - entries per day are limited.

The event includes several races, which are staged on a 5.275km-loop course. Entrants can choose to run either one, two or four laps.

Start and finish is in the centre of the village. The route runs along the valley and passes the spa complex before it returns along a brook to the village.

In 2009, the half marathon winners were Robert Pingitzer (1:12:57) and Karin Russ (1:33:12).
