More than 500 runners and hikers took part in last year's edition of this spectacular 20km trail race through the wilderness of the Friulian Dolomites in north-eastern Italy.
You can take your time to complete the course (the time limit stands at 7 hours), but you still need to be well prepared and experienced in the mountains as the race features 1700 metres of ascent and 1700 metres of descent. The highest point on the course is at an elevation of 2175 metres.
Some sections are very steep and on loose terrain. About 4 kilometres are on asphalt roads.
The start and finish are at an elevation of 880 metres in the ski and holiday resort of Forni di Sopra in the province of Udine. The village is located at the western end of the Tagliamento River Valley, close to the source of the river.
The route crosses three mountain ridges in the Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti Friulane, a widely unspoilt region with a varied flora and fauna.
The event is officially "non-competitive", so that you don't need to provide a medical certificate at registration.
In 2009, the winners were Mario Scanu (2:05:01) and Lavinia Garibaldi (2:23:20).
You've got seven hours to complete the course and enjoy the views.
