Runners in Slovakia's capital Bratislava celebrate the end of the year with a point-to-point run along the River Danube.
The Silvestrovský beh cez bratislavské mosty (‘New Year's Eve Run across Bratislava's Bridges’) begins at the Ekonomická univerzita (University of Economics) in the eastern part of Bratislava and ends at the Botanická záhrada (Botanical Garden) in the western part of the city.
The route is approximately 11.5 kilometres long and very scenic and challenging as it crosses the Danube seven times.
Participants run across five enormous bridges: Prístavný most, Most Apollo, Starý most (in both directions), Most SNP (in both directions) and Most Lafranconi.
In 2016, almost 1,000 runners took part in the event.
