The Marathon 7500 is held annually in the summer in the Bucegi Mountains, approximately 150 kilometres north of Bucharest, capital of Romania.

It's an extremely challenging trail running event for teams of two runners. Both team members run the full distance. They must run and finish the race together.

Three loop courses are available:

  • Marathon 7500:
    • 90km with 7,500m of ascent
    • start on Friday at 6am
    • time limit: 35 hours
  • Marathon 3200:
    • 45km with 3,200m of ascent
    • start on Saturday at 6am
    • time limit: 14 hours
  • Marathon 1600:
    • 22km with 1,600m of ascent
    • start on Saturday at 8am
    • time limit: 8 hours

All races begin and end at an elevation of about 1,600 metres at the Salvamont Pestera (Mountain Rescue Team Headquarters Pestera), near the beautiful Ialomița Cave Monastery.

The highest point on the course is at about 2,500 metres above sea level.

As the event takes place in a high-alpine environment, participants must carry protective clothing and some other equipment with them (see details on the event website).
