The Hamburg Halbmarathon is one of Germany's top half marathon races.

Held annually in late June or early July, the event attracts around 7,000 runners.

The course is generally flat with some gentle slopes.

Starting on the legendary Reeperbahn in Hamburg's red-light and amusement district, competitors run a loop through the St. Pauli, Altona-Altstadt and Ottensen quarters, and then along the harbour (pictured), past the warehouses of the Speicherstadt (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), through a 550m-long road tunnel, and around the Außenalster lake.

The finish line is at the Hamburg Messe exhibition centre, approximately one and a half kilometres from the start area.

The event also offers an inline skating half marathon.
