"Baroque Marathon" 2013

Held in the rolling hills of the Plzeň Region in the far west of the Czech Republic, the Baroko Maraton offers a number of very hilly and scenic multi-terrain races: 4.2km, 10km, half marathon, and full marathon.

The start and finish are in a large park in the small town of Plasy, which developed around a 12th-century Cistercian monastery.

The route runs through a region that is well known for its pretty scenery as well as for its many notable Baroque buildings created by renowned architects.

About 70 per cent of the route is on trails or dirt roads (30 per cent on asphalt roads). Competitors run through woods, meadows, farmland and villages, across wooden bridges, and along the River Střela, which cuts deep into the surrounding countryside.

Last year, 267 runners completed the half marathon. The full marathon had 101 finishers, led home by Radek Brunner (2:57:08) and Michala Jáglová (3:32:50). The time limit to finish the race is seven hours.
