"Barock und Natur" - the Dresden Marathon takes runners on a sightseeing tour through the most scenic parts of Saxony's capital city.

Over 7000 runners took part in the event last year. Most popular were the half marathon (over 3300 finishers) and the 10k race (over 2100 finishers). The full marathon, which consists of two laps, had more than 1300 participants.

The start and finish are on the egde of the historic city centre, which was completely destroyed during Word War Two but rebuilt later.

Participants run along both banks of the River Elbe, through the beautiful public park of "Großer Garten", and past innumerable impressive buildings.

Most of the route is on asphalt roads. Some sections are on cobbles or on gravel paths. The course is certified and very mildly undulating.
