The "Soltn" trail half marathon takes place on the Salten plateau high above Bolzano, capital of Italy's alpine province of South Tyrol (Italian: Alto Adige).

The route runs through lovely woods and meadows and offers many fine views of the surrounding mountain scenery. Most of the course is on trails, only the first 2 kilometres are on asphalt roads.

The start and finish are at an elevation of 1226 metres in the village of Jenesien (Italian: San Genesio), almost 1000 metres above Bolzano (or 10 kilometres up the road).

Interestingly, more than 97 per cent of Jenesien's inhabitants speak German as a first language whereas in Bolzano 73 per cent are speakers of Italian.

The highest point on the course is at 1514 metres. Overall, the race travels 520 metres up and 520 metres down.

In 2009, the winners were Emanuele Manzi (1:14:36) and Francesca Iachemet (1:32:10).
