The Faaker See with its turquoise waters and the fine views of the Karawanks mountain range is a popular holiday and bathing destination in southern Austria.

Held in high summer, the Faakerseelauf is a popular event with over 500 finishers. It offers two races: the Panoramalauf (10.5km, one lap around the lake) and the half marathon (two laps).

Access to the lake is very limited, and therefore you run only a few metres along the shoreline. Nevertheless, the route is attractive and varied as you run through villages, fields and woods.

Most of the course follows roads and cycle paths. Approximately one kilometre is on forest trails.

The course is flat on the eastern side of the lake, but in the west it's pretty hilly.

In 2009, the half marathon winners were 20-year-old Elvis Kipruto Maiyo of Kenya (1:07:04) and 49-year-old Ida Šurbek of Slovenia (1:24:18).
