This 30km point-to-point road race in northern Italy deserves some attention.

The race starts in the ancient town of Belluno, located at the foot of the eastern Dolomites, 110 kilometres to the north of Venice and easy to reach by train.

The scenic, traffic-free route along the River Piave is undulating and overall slightly downhill. The finish is in the attractive hill town of Feltre. All along the course, the imposing snow-capped mountains of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park provide an impressive backdrop.

You may have to provide a valid medical certificate to take part in the race. You don't need it, however, for the non-competitive 30k race without timing, which follows the same course. You pay reduced entry fees but you start five minutes later and your name won't appear in the results.

In 2009, the race had 1122 finishers. Italy's elite marathon runner Ruggero Pertile led the field home in a time of 1:37:43. On the women's side, Ornella Ferrara and Laura Giordano crossed the finish line hand-in-hand to win in 1:56:47. The course was one kilometre longer than in 2010.

The event is the fourth and last race of the series "Aspettando Treviso Marathon", held in preparation for the Treviso Marathon, which will take place on 14 March 2010.
