2nd Castle Race

Otočec Castle

This 8.2km multi-terrain race takes you to two of the many castles in the Krka River Valley in the Dolenjska region between Ljubljana and Zagreb, a charming area of rolling hills, dense forests, vineyards and thermal spas.

The route is undulating on dirt roads, asphalt and grass.

The race starts off at the sports centre near the village of Otočec. At the 1.5km mark you reach Otočec Castle which is beautifully situated on a little island in the River Krka and surrounded by around 30 tiny islets - a paradise for waterfowl.

You cross the river and the island on two wooden bridges and then run a loop along the river and to the golf course before you pass the second castle on the route, Struga Castle, located on a terrace close to the river. The race then follows the Krka back to the start/finish area.

On the route, there will be three drink stations.

In 2008, the winners were Primož Kobe (24:45) and 12-year-old Sara Karlovšek (31:58).
