About Skyrunning:

Skyrunning is running at altitude. There are various disciplines. The most widely known are:

  • Skyrace: Races between 2,000m and 4,000m altitude and 20km to 30km long.
  • Skymarathon: Races between 30km and 42km long and with a minimum of 2,000m total elevation gain.
  • Vertical Kilometre: Races with a 1,000m vertical climb, not longer than 5km. They can be held at varying altitudes.

The Dolomites Skyrace in Canazei:

This race is only for those runners who are trained to run on very difficult terrain in the high mountains!

In this race you will run from the centre of the Alpine resort of Canazei (1450m) to the peak of Piz Boè (3152m) and back to town. The race follows a 22km lap with an elevation gain of 1750m. It takes you over paths, trails, scree and possibly also some snow fields through breathtaking surroundings. The course features some very steep up- and downhill sections.

The course records are held by Slovenia's Mitja Kosovelj in 2:04:53 (up 1:18:52, down 46:01) and Italy's Antonella Confortola in 2:30:09 (up 1:29:32, down 1:00:37).

A Vertical Kilometre race with an altitude gain of 1000 metres over a 2.1km course will be held two days before on Friday morning.

In 2009, the event is host to the European Skyrunning Championships.
