Held since 1965, the Silvestrovský beh medzi mostami ("New Year's Eve Run between the Bridges") is a running event with a long tradition.
It takes place annually on 30 December in Piešťany, the largest spa town in Slovakia, located approximately 85 kilometres from Bratislava.
The event features a very fine setting and a scenic course, and it offers races for all ages: 5k, 10k and children's races.
Starting on kúpeľný ostrov (spa island), an island in the Váh river, the 5k race is four laps and the 10k is eight laps of a mostly-flat loop course that runs along both banks of the river and across two bridges:
