Held since 1977 in the mountainous Prešov Region in Slovakia, the Malý štrbský maratón is a long-standing running event that offers two challenging road races:

  • 10km with 121m of ascent
  • 31km with 578m of ascent

The event also features several shorter races for children.

The start/finish line is at an elevation of 827 metres in the village of Štrba which sits in a wide green valley between two mountain ranges, the High Tatras (pictured) to the north and the Low Tatras to the south.

Both routes are very scenic and provide fantastic views of the High Tatras.

The 10k race follows a loop course through grassland and fields whereas the 31k race takes the runners out and back through woods and grassland into the foothills of the Low Tatras. The turnaround point is at an elevation of 907 metres in the village of Liptovská Teplička.

The course is not closed to traffic during the race.
