The Paderborner Martinslauf (Paderborn Saint Martin's Run) is held annually on a Friday night around Saint Martin's Day, which is celebrated every year on 11 November in Germany and many other countries around the world.

Entrants can choose to run either 6km (three laps) or 10km (five laps) through the city centre of Paderborn, a traditionally catholic city of about 160,000 residents, located in Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia), Germany's most populous state.

The 2km-long loop course is very varied and challenging.

Starting on Marktplatz on the doorstep of two of Paderborn's best sights, the 12th-century Gaukirche (pictured) and the imposing Dom (Cathedral), the route passes many historic buildings as well as some of the 200 springs that surface in the city to form the 4km-long Pader, Germany's shortest river. Hence the name: Paderborn is the city where the Pader is born.
