The Parktherme Wüstenlauf (‘Parktherme Desert Run’) is held in the spa town of Bad Radkersburg which is situated in the state of Steiermark (Styria) in the far south of Austria, right on the border with Slovenia.

The event takes place in a low-lying region which gets more sunshine than any other region in Austria, and it can get blazing hot there during the summer months.

Several races are available to register for:

  • 300m Bambini Sprint
  • 1.4km Kids Sprint
  • 7km
  • 7km Nordic Walking and Smovey
  • 14km
  • 21.1km Halbmarathon (half marathon)

Starting on Hauptplatz, the main square, the route is a flat 7.03km loop which takes the runners through the colourful town centre (pictured), along the Mur river, through fields to the Liebmannsee (an artificial fishing and bathing lake), and through the spa area of the Parktherme, the main attraction in Bad Radkersburg.

The registration fees include free entry to the thermal indoor and outdoor pools of the Parktherme (on the day of the race) and a voucher for another day ticket for the spa.
