Held annually since 1989 in the Stubaital (Stubai Valley) near the city of Innsbruck in Austria's state of Tirol (Tyrol), the Schlickeralmlauf is a prestigious mountain running event that has attracted many professional athletes and ambitious amateurs from all over the globe.

The event offers two very scenic uphill races:

  • lange Strecke (long course): 11.5km with 1,177m of ascent
  • kurze Strecke (short course): 7.2km with 749m of ascent

The 11.5km race is a very challenging run through forests and pastures and through the Schlick 2000 ski area, starting in the village of Telfes im Stubai (984m) and finishing on the Kreuzjoch ridge (2,109m).

The 7.2km race starts a bit higher up the mountain and also ends on the Kreuzjoch. The route begins at an elevation of 1,361m at the Mittelstation (middle station) of the Kreuzjochbahn, a gondola lift that runs between the valley and the Kreuzjoch.

Both routes pass the Schlickeralm mountain restaurant (1,643m; pictured above).
