The Maraton Szczeciński is held in the port of Szczecin, Pomerania's largest city with a population of more than 400,000.

Szczecin (German: Stettin) is situated in the Odra river delta in the far north-west of Poland, near the border with Germany.

In 2015, two local runners, Bartosz Jurgiewicz (2:36:52) and Ewa Huryń (3:09:18), won the first edition of the Maraton Szczeciński. The race had almost 900 finishers.

Starting at the Azoty Arena, a brand-new 5,400-seat indoor arena in the north-western part of the city, the 42.195km marathon features an undulating single loop course which is certified by the Polish Athletic Association PZLA.

The route runs through residential, commercial, industrial and green areas, and it passes many of Szczecin's sights.

The first part of the race runs through the city centre and then across three arms of the Odra to the south-eastern part of Szczecin. From there, competitors run back to the city centre, northwards through the harbour (pictured) and home to the finish line at the Azoty Arena.

In addition to the marathon the event features a kids' race and a 4.2km fun run.
