Organized by the athletics club LCC Wien, the annual Eisbärlauf ("Polar Bear Run") race series comprises three road running events—one in January, one in February, and one in March.
Each event offers a 7km, a 14km, and a half marathon race. The events in February and in March also include a 28km run.
The route is a 7km-long loop through the Wiener Prater, Vienna's largest public park, which is home to many sports venues as well as to the famous Ferris Wheel.
Starting and finishing near Austria's biggest stadium, the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, the course is AIMS-certified, pancake-flat, and closed to traffic.
The route consists of a 3km-long loop and a 4km-long out-and-back run along Prater Hauptallee, the main avenue through the park.
In 2015, each Eisbärlauf event had more than 1,000 finishers.
