The Maraton Jana Buly ("Jan Bula Marathon") attracts about 200 runners to the small town of Moravské Budějovice, which sits amid the rolling countryside of the Vysočina Region in the southern part of the Czech Republic.

Entrants can choose between the 5.275km race (one lap) or the 42.2km marathon (eight laps). Children run between 50m and 2km.

Starting on Chelčického Street in the northern part of town, the route runs out and back a gently-undulating country road to the village of Lukov, which is 2.5km to the north of Moravské Budějovice. The course is not closed to traffic during the race.

The event commemorates the Roman Catholic priest Jan Bula, born in 1920 in Lukov, who did not want to cooperate with the Czechoslovak communist regime. In 1952, Jan Bula was sentenced to death in a show trial and executed.
