Nymburk (Czech Republic), Sunday 24 April 2016
The Nymburk Half Marathon in the Czech Republic features a very scenic course along both banks of the River Elbe (Czech: Labe).
The event offers a 10km race (Nymburská čtvrtka) and a half marathon (Nymburský půlmaraton), starting and finishing at the old town walls of Nymburk, a town of 15,000 people, situated about fifty kilometres east of Prague.
Participants in the half marathon run two laps of the 10km course. The second lap includes a short out-and-back section along the river to make it a half marathon.
Although the route is mostly flat and fast on asphalt cycle paths it's a rather challenging race as the competitors have to run up and down the stairways of two Elbe bridges — 60 stairs at one bridge and then 30 stairs at the other bridge.
Nevertheless, with a generous time limit of two hours for the 10k and three hours for the half marathon the event is suitable for runners of all abilities.
