This road running event is held in the 1300-year-old city of Würzburg, which is situated in a wine-growing area in Germany's state of Bavaria.

The event comprises a 10km fun run, a half marathon, and a 42.2km marathon.

The full marathon consists of two equal laps. Participants have the option to finish the race after the first lap if they prefer to get an official half marathon result.

The course is certified and relatively flat, with a difference of about 15 metres between the lowest and the highest point on the course.

Along the route there are some outstanding sights, for instance the monumental Residenz Palace, the Romanesque Cathedral, and the Old Main Bridge which connects Würzburg's Old Town with the Marienberg Fortress (pictured above).

In 2014, the half marathon had over 1700 finishers. More than 550 completed the full marathon, and about 260 runners took part in the 10k run.

The time limit to finish the marathon is 5 hours 30 minutes.
