The Europamarathon is an exciting and truly international event, held annually in early June in Görlitz-Zgorzelec, a city that has been divided in two since 1945 — Görlitz in Germany and Zgorzelec in Poland.
The 400m children's race, the 2k run and the half marathon are held on German soil. The 5k, the 10k and the 42.2k marathon, however, are cross-border races which take the runners through both parts of the city.
The course is undulating, accurately measured and certified.
The start/finish area is in Görlitz's Old Town with its unique ensemble of late-Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque houses — and approximately 4000 listed buildings!
More than 1,300 runners, mainly from Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, took part in the Europamarathon last year.
The event also offers races for inline skaters, walkers, kickbike riders, handbikers and wheelchair racers.
